Hanover, PA (March 20, 2023) – After getting rained out at Port Royal and Williams Grove, the first round of the 2023 version of the World of Outlaws vs. the PA Posse took place at Lincoln Speedway on Saturday night. With cold weather forecasted the start time was moved up an hour to 5PM which meant time trials and the heat races took place on what was essentially a day time surface.
With 49 cars on hand, Dylan went out 21st in the first flight of time trials. Norris had an ignition problem in warm ups that continued into time trials where he put down a lap time of 14.918, placing him 24th quickest in his flight. Dylan lined up twelfth for his heat race and raced forward to finish seventh, two spots shy of making the feature. Norris also showed speed in the Last Chance Showdown where he drove from his ninth place starting spot to finish fourth, putting him in the 35-lap $10,000 to win feature line-up.
Norris lined up 24th for the feature and was running 25th when he brought out the caution on lap 12. The same problem from earlier in the night had resurfaced. The Gobrecht Motorsports Team worked on the #44 in the work area, changing the MSD box but when Norris was pushed off he could tell the problem was still there, ending his night. “It was a rough night, but I felt overall when we didn’t have problems we had a decent and fast car. Just having the problem in time trials and not having a motor running right puts you behind all night with their format,” was Norris’ assessment of his first Outlaw race of the year.
In addition to taking on the Outlaws Norris, and every competitor on Saturday, were running Hoosier’s new tires for the first time. The new tires were designed to last longer and have the ability to be turned around to be used both directions. Dylan’s takeaway from his first night on the new tires was, “I definitely feel the new tire is going to be an adjustment. After only running it one night I feel I’m going to have to change my driving style a little bit and going forward we’ll have to change our baseline setups a decent amount.”
The first three-day race weekend in Central PA is this coming weekend and Dylan and the Gobrecht Motorsports Team are scheduled to race Friday night at Williams Grove, Saturday at Lincoln and then Sunday at BAPS.
