Hanover, PA (July 24, 2023) – Dylan Norris and the Gobrecht Motorsports Team were on hand for the World of Outlaws return to BAPS Motor Speedway after a 30 year hiatus on Wednesday night. Unfortunately, the skies opened up after time trials and teams and fans would have to wait another night for racing action.
Everything reset on Thursday night and Dylan went out and was third quickest overall with a lap time of 15.116 seconds. Norris’ time put him on the pole of his heat and he would finish third putting him in the feature, “I wish we could have had a better start in the heat race and been able to lock into the dash. I made a mistake and next time I’ll know what to do.” Dylan lined up eleventh for the feature and was up to sixth by lap 4, which is where he would run for nearly the first half of the feature, “We had our car way too good early in the feature and did not tighten it up enough for the end so I tried to move around to compensate for the car handling and it ended up hurting us.” As the white flag flew, a car in front of Norris had a flat tire and barely got off the track, the yellow did not come out and Dylan crossed the line eleventh, “If we would have had a restart it would have been good for me since I restart well at BAPS.”
Friday, Norris started the night timing fifteenth out of 37 cars with a lap time of 17.620 which put him fourth in his heat race line-up. Norris finished third in his heat which lined him up eleventh for the feature, “Friday night the track conditions were not in our favor. I had a decent qualifying run and was good in the heat race but in the feature I just could not maneuver enough to pass cars.” Dylan crossed the line eighteenth.
Dylan timed twenty-fifth quickest on Saturday night to start things off with a lap time of 18.477 seconds. Norris lined up seventh for his heat race, two spots out of a qualifying spot. Dylan used the bottom to get a solid start and was up to fifth by lap two, “We made a lot of adjustments after time trials for the heat and got the car a lot better.” Norris finished the heat race fourth, solidifying a spot in the $20,000 to win Summer Nationals. Dylan’s impressive heat race run led to the Outlaws media team putting a go-pro on the #44 for the feature. Norris lined up thirteenth and faced some of the same struggles as the previous night, “I felt our car was pretty good, but the track ended up taking rubber early in the feature making it tough to pass.” Dylan would finish the Outlaw swing with a fifteenth place finish.
“Overall I feel that our weekend was ok. I think we showed speed and that we can race with the Outlaw guys. I think running with them more often and more consistently would lead to us matching their pace for the entire night.”
