Hanover, PA (July 5, 2022) – Dylan Norris and the Gobrecht Motorsports team completed their first full PA Speedweek campaign which included 9 races in 10 days. “It was a week full of highs and lows but was great to experience new tracks and places we don’t get to often,” Norris shared on the experience. “Proud of my guys Shawn, Smoke, Kevin, Rucker and Dale for grinding this week out and most importantly our great partners and fans for getting us through the week.”
After racing and Williams Grove, Lincoln, a rain out at BAPS, Lincoln again and then the team’s first trip to Grandview, the second half of the week started at Port Royal Speedway on Wednesday. Dylan timed 13th out of 20 cars in his flight with a lap of 16.584 seconds. With 39 cars on hand, Norris lined up seventh for his heat race and finished eighth. Dylan would finish seventh in the B-main, missing the feature for the first and only time during Speedweek.
Thursday night Dylan and the team added a second new track to their repertoire, Hagerstown Speedway. Norris timed 29th quick out of 36 cars with a lap of 16.897 seconds, lining him up eighth for his heat race. Norris finished sixth in his heat, missing the feature by one spot and setting him up for a third place starting spot in the B-main. Norris showed speed in the B-main and finished second, qualifying him for the feature where he would start 22nd. Dylan pulled off on lap 15 and was scored 22nd.
Friday it was back to Williams Grove for the crown jewel of Speedweek, the $15,000 to win Mitch Smith Memorial. With 32 cars on hand Norris timed ninth quick with a lap of 17.099 seconds, lining him up for a second place starting spot in his heat. Dylan won his heat putting him in the feature redraw for the first time of the week. Norris drew the two and shared the front row for the start of the feature with Brent Marks. Norris would cross the line fourth and regained the season championship points lead at Williams Grove with his solid finish.
Port Royal was back on deck Saturday. Dylan timed 23rd quick out of 33 cars with a lap of 16.120 seconds. Norris lined up sixth for his heat race and finished fifth, qualifying him for the $10,000 to win Hodnett Classic feature. Dylan lined up 19th for the start of the feature and would bring out the caution on lap 2 when he stopped on the front stretch after feeling fuel on his back. Norris rejoined the field and then got collected in turn 2 when Mike Walter and Justin Whittall got together and left Dylan nowhere to go. Dylan would be scored 24th.
Speedweek concluded at Selinsgrove on Sunday with 23 cars in the pits. Dylan went out for time trials but had an issue with the bolt that holds the steering in place. The Gobrecht Motorsports team was able to make repairs and Dylan went out for a single time trial lap at the end of the session and put down a lap of 18.297 seconds which was good enough for 20th. Norris started 7th in his heat race and finished sixth which lined him up 17th for the start of the feature. Dylan ran 15th for most of the race and that is where he would finish.
Dylan finished 11th in overall Speedweek points and was ninth out of the 11 drivers that ran the entire week. Norris earned a $1,000 for competing in every race.
